The Hills are still alive - at least for female fans.
The MTV reality show's fifth season premiere Monday had the highest TV ratings among females aged 12-24 and 18-24.
The back-to-back episodes averaged 3 million viewers, down about 15 percent from the season four premiere. In comparison, season three attracted 4.8 million viewers.

Producers say they still haven't decided whether to continue the show without Lauren Conrad, who is leaving after this season.

Heidi Montag recently told MTV News the show could still thrive without her former BFF.
"We'll miss her. I just don't know if we need her," she said. "She's gotta leave the dramas to the pros! I love The Hills and I definitely don't want to go anywhere anytime soon. That's my home and I'm so grateful to be on it, so we'll see."

I was expecting more than just a 15% drop-off, I don't think that's bad at all. I mean, it's the FIFTH season, and the main character is barely on the show anymore.
Its a 50 percent drop in a year, that's a lot. The shows done. I'm starting to think mtv told lauren the show was done with this season and not the other way around. The publicists all got involved and mtv decided to play it that way. Lauren looks like she was just tired of it and mtv looks like they lost the star so the series ended and it takes the focus off the ratings.
Yeah but it only dropped 15% from the Season 4 premiere, I was expecting more than that especially with Lauren being so absent from season 4. Had season 4 continued to show her love life I think ratings would still be great. It was when Lauren started to get boring on the show that ratings started to drop.
I don't think kyle would have done a thing for ratings. The hills was a concept that never really worked because it was never Lauren and her real friends which was what it was supposed to be. Heidi was a hanger on and Audrina was basically cast on the show. That's ultimatly why it failed.
Uhh what? What on earth are you talking about? The Hills is one of the biggest teen phenomenons ever. Most people never thought it'd become so huge let alone last for FIVE seasons. And Heidi was a real friend that sadly let Hollywood go to her head.
At the top, it got 5 million people, thats one decent size city.
9.32, without the Heidi situation, the Hills would surely not be around today! She made it more interesting with her faux relationship and bad trusting skills with friends.
